| Dandruff is the term used to describe persistent flaking, scaling or itching of the scalp, often caused by excessive cell production and overgrowth of yeast. A small amount of flakes of dead skin forming on the scalp is normal and quite common. However, excessive flaking can be a visual nuisance and become a social stigma.
